Most public AC chargers and many home wall boxes in the UAE have a Type 2 socket and no cable attached, so you bring your own. Which cable you need depends on three things: the charging port on your car, the power your car and charger can use (7kW or 22kW), and the length your parking space needs (5m or 10m). Our Type 2 charging cables start at AED 799.
Step 1: match the cable to your car's charging port
Open your car's charging flap and compare the socket with this table.
| Your car's port | Common on | Cable you need | Our options (price on 25 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type 2 (7-pin, flat top edge) | Most cars sold new in the UAE, Gulf and Europe | Type 2 to Type 2 | 7kW 5m AED 849 · 22kW 5m AED 849 · 22kW 10m AED 1,299 |
| NACS (Tesla's slim connector) | Teslas imported from the US | Type 2 to NACS | 7kW 5m AED 899 |
| Type 1 / J1772 (round, 5-pin) | Cars imported from the US or Korea | Type 2 to Type 1 | 7kW 5m AED 799 |
| GB/T (Chinese standard) | EVs imported with a Chinese-spec inlet, such as some BYD, VW ID.4/ID.6 and Changan models | Type 2 to GBT | 7kW 5m AED 799 · 22kW 5m AED 899 · 22kW 10m AED 1,299 |
Not sure which port you have? A car delivered new in the UAE usually has Type 2. A car imported from the US, Korea or China may not. Send a photo of your charging port on WhatsApp (+971 55 552 4951) and we will tell you which cable fits.
Step 2: choose 7kW or 22kW
A cable does not make your car charge faster than it can. AC charging speed is set by the lowest of three things: the charger, the cable, and the car's built-in (on-board) charger.
- 7kW cables are single-phase. They suit cars whose maximum AC charging power is around 7kW, and home wall boxes on single-phase power.
- 22kW cables are three-phase. They let a car that accepts 11kW or 22kW AC charge at full speed on a 22kW public charger. They also work on 7kW chargers, so a 22kW cable is never too much.
Check your car's maximum AC charging power in the owner's manual or the manufacturer's specification sheet. If you might change cars, or you often use 22kW public chargers, the 22kW cable leaves room.
Step 3: choose 5m or 10m
- 5m is enough when you can park with the charging port close to the charger, which covers most home and public bays.
- 10m helps when the charger is across the bay, your port is on the far side of the car, or you share a charger between two parking spaces.
Longer cables are heavier and take more space in the boot, so choose 10m only if you need the reach.
Using a charging cable safely in UAE heat
- Never use a household extension lead with an EV cable.
- Plug the cable into the car first, then into the charger, unless your charger's instructions say otherwise.
- Keep the connectors capped and dry, and check the cable for cuts or crushed sections before each use.
- Coil it loosely and store it out of direct sun when you can; a cable left baking on a car park floor ages faster.
- Stop using any cable with a damaged plug, exposed wires or a burning smell.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my own cable at public chargers? For many AC chargers, yes: they have a Type 2 socket and no cable attached. DC fast chargers have their own cable fixed to the charger, so you do not need one there.
Will a 22kW cable charge my car faster? Only if both the charger and your car can use more than 7kW. On a 7kW charger, or with a car limited to 7kW AC, a 22kW cable charges at the same speed as a 7kW cable.
My Tesla came from the US. Which cable do I need? A US-spec Tesla has a NACS port, so you need the Type 2 to NACS cable to use the Type 2 AC chargers common in the UAE.
My BYD has a different socket from the chargers here. Cars imported with a Chinese GB/T inlet need a Type 2 to GBT cable. Send us a photo of the port if you are unsure.
Do you also sell home chargers and installation? Yes. See our EV chargers and our home installation packages.
Ready to choose? See all eight cables in our EV charging cables collection, or send us your car model on WhatsApp and we will match the cable.
